Tips for Trialling
Our fragrances have been designed to capture a mood, a moment in time, a scene in your life. Reading the description, key notes and main accords will give you an idea of whether a scent will resonate with you, but our Discovery Set is the best way to find your Hart + Hedi scent.
It can be very overwhelming to try multiple fragrances in a store and so we believe that trialling in your own space, one by one, is best.
There are six 2ml bottles included in your Sampler as well as small scent strips. The temptation will be to start spraying them on different parts of your body but this will very quickly become very confusing.
Try these steps:
- Label each scent strip first and then spray 1 – 2 pumps of the matching scent to one end of the scent strip. Wait a moment, then bring it to your nose. What you are experiencing here are the top notes which will linger briefly. Note what this scent reminds you of. Reading our scent descriptor on the base of the inner box will help identify what you are smelling. Repeat for each fragrance.
- Come back to the first scent strip and smell each again. You will now get more of the mid to base notes coming through. What is left on the scent strip is called the dry down.
- At this point you may have identified preference for one scent over another and can prioritise which you would like to trial. Trialling perfume is best done with a single scent that you wear for at least one day to see how it sits with you. Because perfumes react to individual ph levels in the skin, many people find that this helps them to know if the perfume is one that they will wear and in what context. Spray the scent in the place that you are likely to want to wear it (neck, inside of arm, or on a scarf)
- Trial each scent that you feel will work for you (min 1 day each). Once you are able to narrow these down, you may like to continue to use the samples to see how they fit in your life. Some scents work beautifully for the day and others are perfect for that special night out.
- Don’t be surprised if your initial evaluation changes. This is quite typical and you may find yourself coming back to one or two more often than others. When you are ready to purchase, consider what size bottle will work best for your use.
